Excellent Engraved J. Krider Derringer Pocket Pistol
No makers marks are visible, though the construction and border engraving are the work of John Krider, a noted Philadelphia gunsmith active from 1826 to 1889. Brass cone front and notch rear sights, with scroll and border engraving on the breech and tang. The barrel shows a fiery blue finish with etched gray lines, emulating Deringer's "bronzed" finish. Starburst patterns are visible in the silver on the front section of the finial and bolster, a grid and dot pattern on the rear of the finial and on the reverse plate, engraved zigzag borders on the shield escutcheon and buttplate, and scrollwork on the hammer, lock, accent plate and trigger guard. Fancy walnut stock, with a subtle Schnabel pattern to the tip, and checkering up the back of the bird's head butt, extending to the shield.

Excellent, 85% plus original finish. The streaked pattern is clearly visible on the barrel, with over half original brown and gray striped finish remaining. The case colors have turned a pleasing darkened patina on the lock, hammer and tang. The engraving is sharp and crisp showing no wear. Outstanding piano wood stock is very fine, with only a few mild scattered pressure dents. Silver shows a bright appearance overall. Action is excellent. A very nice J. Krider Philadelphia Derringer.
