Canadian Rifle C No. 7 Mk. I .22 caliber rifle manufactured by the Canadian Small Arms Factory at Long Branch, Ontario, c. 1944. The single shot bolt action .22 caliber training rifle has the same configuration as the .303 caliber No. 4 Mk.I rifle. The rifle's distinctive features include: barrel with no bayonet lug, special bolt with special bolt head, extractor and two piece firing pin, non-functional magazine and special backsight graduated for 20 and 100 yards. The backsight has a disk aperture and is adjustable for windage and elevation. A competition type sling swivel is mounted in front of the trigger guard screw. The rifle has a military blue finish on the receiver, bolt, magazine and other components. The stock, forearm and handguard are oil finished straight grain black walnut. The left side of the receiver is roll stamped with the first style markings ".22"/LONG BRANCH/1944" in three lines. The serial number, "OL5951" is stamped on the left side of the butt socket and on the back of the bolt handle. Canadian "C/Broad Arrow" property marks are stamped on the underside of the stock and forearm. The rifle is complete with the original green painted wooden transit chest. Both sides of the chest are stenciled "CHEST, RIFLE, .22 INCH, LONG BRANCH". A label on the top of the chest is addressed to "CAPT. A.A. Ransom/Assistant Cadet Officer/Bay Street Armories/Victoria, B.C.". The chest is complete with the original cleaning rod and three cleaning jags that were issued with each No. 7. Rifle. The No. 7. Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus of the original military blue finish with minor edge wear on the major components. The stock, forearm and handguard are excellent with very minor storage wear. All of the markings are crisp. The transit chest is very good; most of the dark green paint is intact and the various labels and stencils are all legible. The chest interior and cleaning rod is excellent. This is an excellent example of a Canadian No.7 Mk.I .22 Training Rifle with original Transit Chest.
