Engraved and Silver-Plated Campo-Giro Model 1913-16 Presentation Semi-Automatic Pistol, #5773, 9mm Largo cal., 6-1/2'' barrel, Spanish engraved and silver plated, faux pearl grips, and one chrome-plated magazine numbered 08233. Mfg'd in Guernica, Northern Spain. It is interesting to note that on page 163 of the book, ''Astra Firearms'', by Leonardo M. Antaris, the author states, ''In the late 1940s or early 1950s, Astra reworked a small number of military surplus Campo-Giro M1913-16s. The guns were stripped of their original finish, given a light polish, engraved with a shallow scroll and then silver plated. The small parts and magazine were chromed and the grips were replaced with panels of smooth pearlite. In keeping with their previous service, the guns were military-accepted and only rarely had a matching magazine. Most retained a few nicks and dings under the plating. Following this in-house upgrade, they were used in Astra's traveling display or given as gifts but rarely sold. The majority were displayed in an elegant leather-bound case that was dyed red, navy blue or burgundy and trimmed in gold (not present). Recorded examples: 4394, 4917, 5773 (this gun), 5916, 09321, 09323, 09888.'' Condition is excellent as factory refinished, with thinning to some of the original markings prior to enhancement. Engraving is excellent. Grips show little use. Action is tight, bore is fine. Est.: $5,500-$7,500. (C&R)
