Dwight Eisenhower typed letter signed as President, dated 27 January 1954 on ''DDE / The White House / Personal and Confidential'' stationery. Here, Eisenhower writes to his older brother Edgar, chastising him for siding with a newspaper columnist instead of supporting his brother as President: ''…You say that many of your friends agree with Mr. Bromfield. On what basis of fact do they conclude that my 'political advisers' are a clique of so-called 'Dewey men'? In fact, I am astonished at you. I assume that, as a successful lawyer, your clients have thought you to be objective and a man who seeks and depends upon fact, evidence, and logical conclusion -- and that you are not influenced by silly rumors spread by irresponsible people…What you don't seem to be able to get into your head is that the political game -- as played by some writers and too great a proportion of the participants -- is a combination of gossip, innuendo, sly character assassination, and outright lies. Along with this, the demagogue tries to develop a saleable list of items to hold before the public. It seems to me that America should take some interest in and give some support to an Administration in which the effort is made to assemble facts, statistics and good brains -- and to use all these in the service of the country…it is rather disturbing to find one brother that seems always ready to believe that I am a poor, helpless, ignorant uninformed individual, thrust to dizzy heights of governmental responsibility and authority, who has been captured by a band of conniving 'internationalists.''' Letter is on three sheets with two holes punched at top. Near fine condition.
