A very large Egyptian Predynastic red burnished jar with incised 'centipede', Naqada II, c. 3600 - 3300 BC, with conical body tapering to a narrow, flattened base, the neck narrowed with rim rolled outward. The surfaces are beautifully burnished with mottled red surfaces, an incised centipede-like character which originally identified the owner or perhaps family, on one side. H: 111/4 in (28.6 cm). Intact with a few age cracks near rim. These vessels are extremely rare with any kind of personal markings such as this one possesses. Ex Orange County private collection.
