Early U.S. M1 Carbine, by Winchester, #1079556, .30 Carb. cal., 18'' ''W'' marked barrel, parkerized finish, high wood oval-cut walnut stock, with bull-nose two-rivet handguard, flat blue bolt, and push-button safety. Internally this Carbine features early dog-leg hammer and spring tube, and was once the personal property of early WWII UDT Frogman Harold W. Culver and is so marked just above ''WRA/GHD'' cartouche to walnut stock. Lt. Culver led Team 6 in action on the island of Pelelieu, as mentioned in the book ''Naked Warriors''. Condition is excellent with nice grain to stock that shows only light handling marks. Receiver and barrel show minor thinning to finish, mostly in actioning areas, with thinning and light to just moderate toning to triggerguard and mag release. Action is crisp, bore is excellent. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
