On offer is a wooden advertising crate from National Licorice. National Licorice Company was created in 1902 through the merger of three small firms: Young & Smylie, S.V. & F.P. Schudder and H.W. Petherbridge. In 1908 a plant was opened in Montreal and in 1929 the Twizzler brand was established. The crate has a lid with original hinges and a printed ad for "National Licorice Co. Manuf'r Of The Flexible Licorice, Flexible Whips, 1 cent each" The front of the crate has a lightly visible text reading "The Flexible L". The sides both have a painted text reading "Whips". The measurements for the box are 14" x 6.75" x 4.25"H. A lovely piece that would work well as decor or for the collector of Americana.
