This is an early Deer Lodge Prison made hitched horsehair belt from Montana circa 1940. The belt shows a tightly hitched construction with a wonderful chevron and diamond design done in red, brown, yellow and black. The belt has a beautiful hand tooled silver buckle, believed to be sterling but not tested. The prison made belt is in good condition with minor damage to one of the ferrules as shown. The belt measures 36.5" long overall.
