This Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe Lever Action Rifle was manufactured in 1892. The rifle is accompanied by a Winchester factory letter that describes it as: "Rifle, 40/82 caliber", with octagon barrel, plain trigger with checkered stock and pistol grip. The rifle is unusually factory fitted with a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The octagon barrel has a dovetail mounted, nickel-sliver, front sight and a sporting style rear sight. The barrel and magazine tube are blued; the forearm cap, receiver, loading lever, hammer and crescent steel buttplate have a color casehardened finish. The highly figured, fancy walnut stock and forearm have checkered panels and the pistol grip has an ebony inlay. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. The caliber: "40--82 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is marked with the designation: "-MODEL 1886-". The lower receiver tang is stamped: "-PAT.OCT.14, 1884./JAN. 20.1885" in two lines behind the trigger. The serial number "67940" is etched between the tang screws.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 70% of the slightly faded original blue finish with light edge wear. The Winchester legend and caliber designation are crisp. The case colors of the forearm cap, receiver, loading lever, hammer and buttplate have faded a silver-gray patina. There is some scattered "frosting" on the sides of the receiver. The bolt retains most of the original blue finish. The blue on the loading gate has faded to a plum-colored patina. The stock and forearm have been refinished. The checkered panel on the forearm shows light handling wear the checkering on the pistol grip is crisp. The stock and forearm remain in very good overall condition. This is a solid representative example of a desirable Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe Lever Action Rifle with casehardened receiver and fancy walnut forearm and pistol grip stock.
