Documented Deluxe Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle
This is a nice example of a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1888. The rifle has a blue barrel, magazine loading gate and bolt with casehardened remaining parts. Single set trigger. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN, U.S.A.", "38-56 W.C.F." is marked on top at the breech, "-MODEL 1886-" on the upper tang and the serial number is marked on the lower tang behind the lever, and marked "PAT, OCT. 14, 1884 / JAN. 20, 1885" directly behind the trigger. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed silver blade front and adjustable rear sporting sights, full magazine and mounted with a deluxe checkered walnut forearm with an iron end cap and pistol grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, set trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, that it was received in the warehouse on November 3, 1888 and shipped on order number 14706, November 9, 1888.

Condition: Fine as partially restored. The barrel retains 30% original blue finish in protected areas with the balance having a smooth brown patina. The magazine has a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal parts have a smooth silver gray patina. The wood has been professionally refinished and recheckered, and remains very good with a few minor dings and handling marks, with very crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
