Manufactured in 1877, this revolver features factory floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the barrel, frame, cylinder flats, hammer, back strap and trigger guard. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address, the left side with a relief engraved, matte panel COLT D.A. 41" and the three line, three patent dates in a banner are on the left side of the frame. The upper left rear of the trigger guard is marked "41 CAL". The revolver is finished in nickel with factory gold hammer and cylinder and niter blue on the small components. Fitted with smooth two-piece pearl grips. The accompanying factory letter, (addressed to the late Dr. Richard Marohn, a noted Colt 1877 DA collector), verifies the caliber, barrel length, nickel/gold finish, factory engraving, and rubber grips at the time of shipment as 1 to J.P. Lower & Sons, Denver, Colorado on April 10, 1878. Also there is a copy of a ledger from H.D. Folsom & Company, St. Louis, Mo. listing this revolver (serial number 2223) with rubber grips. Apparently the ledger is a list of Colts for exhibition to Folsom, (R.L. Wilson letter stating this included). There are also copies of correspondence in reference to the St. Louis Exposition.
