Desirable Martially Inspected Civil War Navy Remington Model 1861 Percussion Revolver
Marked "PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON'S ILION, N.Y." on top of the barrel. The patent was for the grooved lever to allow the cylinder pin to be pulled forward without lowering the loading lever. This was William Elliot's patent and his name is sometimes found on the lever. The serial numbers on these started after the last of the Beal's patent Navy revolvers, at about 15,000, so this is approximately the 565th revolver of this model made. Approximately 12,000 were made in 1862. The serial numbers match in the left side of the frame under the grip, and the bottom of the barrel. A "CGC" cartouche is on the left grip with "W" and "J" initials on various parts. The aforementioned cartouche is also found on the rare U.S. Contract Henry rifles!
