Silver finished brass blade front sight and fixed rear sight, with no markings visible on the barrel, "J B" on the lock plate below the drum, and double set triggers. Smooth brass tipped stock, with a spiral pattern varnish ramrod, brass hand rest trigger guard, a raised cheekpiece and a smooth brass buttplate. Information provided by the consignor identifies "J B" as John Border, a gunsmith active from 1855 to 1864 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, whose career was cut short by a railway accident.

Condition: Fine, showing a crisp, untouched brown patina overall, with a grayer tone towards the muzzle, scattered spotting and handling marks, and pitting around the drum.
