Silver finished brass blade front sight and fixed rear sight, with no markings visible on the barrel, "J B" on the lock plate below the drum, and double set triggers. Smooth brass tipped stock, with a spiral pattern varnish ramrod, brass hand rest trigger guard, a raised cheekpiece and a smooth brass buttplate. Information provided by the consignor identifies "J B" as John Border, a gunsmith active from 1855 to 1864 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, whose career was cut short by a railway accident.
BBL: 39 1/2 inch octagon

The stock is fine, with some tight minor hairline cracks and chips, scattered dents, and an attractive grain pattern. Mechanically good. Very attractive form, fine condition.
