DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER`S WORLD WAR II STAFF CAR FLAG
A superb Eisenhower relic, his personal staff car flag used by Eisenhower during World War II. The crimson-red cotton flag measures about 16"" x 12"" and bears five white stars in a circular pattern. The flag was donated by Eisenhower to a Navy Relief Auction, first held in the mid-Forties to raise funds for Navy veterans and their families. The flag is accompanied by a color copy of the card originally sold with it which reads: ""NAVY RELIEF FUND AUCTION Item: Gen. of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower's Staff Car Flags. One for parade, one for everyday use. Lot Number 22 Donated By: Kay Summersby, 2nd Lt., W.A.C."" and the original of which was boldly signed by Summersby in black ink. KAY SUMMERSBY was Eisenhower's war-time driver and secretary, and was widely rumored to have carried on a long-time affair with General Eisenhower. At war's end, the two never met again, therefore this flag could only have been given to Summersby during the war. Very fine condition. 2130
