D. W. Earl was a Sacramento grain and flour dealer for California Gold Rush Towns. It wasn't long before they became a forwarding agent for those same towns with strings of wagons pulled by 10 to 18 mules. Earl was a very successful businessman and was an original stock holder for the Central Pacific Railroad in 1863. In 1868 when the CPRR crossed Nevada, Earl became their unofficial forwarding agent with offices inside the most important depots. Lot of four. 1) 1869 check to Earl signed by Henry Yerington. Check number 2. Has a 2c Nevada Revenue stamp. 2) Fancy 1871 pictorial Letterhead to the Mineral Hill Mining Company in Eureka County. "...will be here as soon as the Powder Car arrives." 3) Half sheet 1873 Battle Mountain letterhead. 4) Half sheet CPRR billhead for moving an item from Battle Mountain to Reno and on to Virginia City. 1876.
