Custom engraved Colt Detectives Special revolver, .38 Spl. cal., 2" barrel, nickel finish, custom checkered comb at ivory grips, #B29829. This gun is in like new condition with accompanying copy of a Colt factory letter dated Februry 18, 1992 confirming the caliber, finish and factory Class "C" engraving by Colt Master Engraver Leonard Francolini with shipment to James Alaimo of Colt, on February 11, 1992, one gun in shipment. Under remarks, the letter further states "Subject revolver has a rather unique background as it was utilized as a show gun during the late 1970's when it was exhibited at various gun shows around the United States as a example of Custom Shop engraving. The revolver is also pictured on page 371 of "The Book of Colt Engraving", by R.L. Wilson". The factory letter indicates wood grips but a subsequent letter on Colt Letterhead dated October 13, 1993 indicates the upgrading to checkered ivory target grips by Jim Alaimo, Superintendent of the Colt Custom Gun Shop. Francolini's beautiful scroll engraving is applied tastefully on all major parts of this revolver and the ivory grips show fine checkering, graining and color. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
