Crow Beaded Pipe Tomahawk, 22 ½ brass tacked haft
Crow Beaded Pipe Tomahawk. 22 ½" brass tacked haft and 10" hand-forged iron head. Haft is wrapped with 3" of red trade cloth that is beaded and fringed, then adorned with a 20" beaded drop outlined with a finely beaded white border on trade cloth. "JB" is stamped on one side of the 10" blade, possibly the mark of John Bordeaux, a documented 19th century tomahawk maker and fur trader who owned a trading post in Northern Nebraska. He traded and sold with the Crow and Sioux. Circa late 1800's.
