Converted Spencer lever action repeating rifle, .52 cal., 33” heavy octagon barrel marked “J. Workman”, wood stocks, #45155. This gun is in overall good condition showing a dark plum/brown patina on the receiver and brown aging on the barrel with scattered nicks, mars, scratches and areas of pitting and erosion; the bore may clean to good, the action is good; the butt stock is from a Spencer carbine with the saddle ring base bar retained and in overall good condition showing some dings, scratches, mars, old losses and a couple repaired areas on the left side of the butt stock at the wrist; there is an interesting period pewter inlay and an old brass tack decoration on the bottom of the butt stock toward the iron butt plate; the loading tube is present in the butt and is fully functional at time of description; the fore stock is an old replacement that was required to fit the heavy octagon barrel modification and is in overall good condition with two pin keys retaining the fore stock to the barrel. A neat looking frontier piece that definitely could have gone West. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
