Native American Comanche Signed & Numbered Rance Hood ''Coup Stick Song'' Print, 63/1500, penciled signed in lower left corner, c. Dallas Creek Arts, printed on exeter velium, 100% Rag. neutral Ph paper, ''Rance Hood is one of the few Native American artists left who still paints in the manner which echoes the traditional Indian culture and spirituality of the past that has been drastically changed by the modern and white worlds. Born in 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma, Rance grew up in the home of his maternal grandparents who taught him the Comanche Indian ways and values. Rance thought his grandfather to be in tune with the rhythms of God and nature. Images from his grandfather's stories join the soaring colors of Peyote ritual in Rance's work. It's these childhood images, in Hood's words that, 'The wind comes blowing through you - it blows your sins away,' are frequent themes in Hood's art. His maternal grandparents taught him Comanche Indian ways and values. Hood has introduced some abstract motifs into his backgrounds, but he adheres mainly to the traditional style of art practiced by his ancestors. Rance Hood is still considered the most successful Plains Indian artist.'' measures approx. 27''H x 21.5''W
