Colt New Service revolver, .45 Colt caliber, Serial #329334. The pistol is in fine overall condition with a 5 ½” barrel. The pistol retains approximately 95% of its original blue finish with slight wear at themuzzle and a faint drag line. The checkered wood silver medallion grips are in very good condition with sharp checkering; however appear to be replacements which do not fit quite right. The back strap and front straphas been sanded to the white and the lanyard loop removed and the hole left, which may be explained by the shipping destination. According to the consignor’s notes, the pistol was assembled on January 12, 1927 andwas subsequently sent to the shipping room on December 31, 1943. It was shipped to J. Henry Fitzgerald at the factory main office on April 17, 1944. “Fitz” designed the .45 New Service with the cut-off hammer spur andtrigger guard, incorporating the round butt as well. The consignor’s opinion was this pistol represents an unfinished, “Fitz Special”. An interesting theory which should be further researched, from the Gil Newton
