Colt New Service DA revolver, British proofed, .455 Eley cal., 7-1/2” barrel, blue finish, checkered Colt dark brown hard rubber grips, #96. This gun is in overall excellent condition showing approx. 95% original blue with some holster wear; very good bore, crisp action and markings, very good grips with lanyard ring retained. At the rear of the frame, a raised bar sight has been added that appears to be period accomplished. This gun originally appeared in the July 1983 “Gun Report” on page 59 where it was described as originally having been the personal sidearm of Lt. General Reginald Pole-Carew, C.B., J.P., who had a very long and excellent service record which included his being the hero of the Battle of Modder River Crossing opposing Cronjie and Koos de la Rey in South Africa. Also included is a copy of Carew’s summary in the 1924 Who’s Who and information that the gun had been previously in the famous Bill Powell collection of New Service Revolvers. From the Richard Wolfe Collection. Est.: $1,250-$2,500.
