Colt Model 1909 U.S. Property-marked New Service DA revolver, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, military blue finish, ivory grips with period inscription “D. E. Bruce, Sheriff, Dewey County, Okla”, #42167. This gun is inoverall very good condition showing approx. 70% muted finish with majority of loss from holster wear and handling of grip, sharp markings, fair to good bore, crisp action, majority of niter blue finish on trigger andback of hammer. Accompanied by a photo of Sheriff Bruce, copies of news articles about him and a six pointed stock Sheriff badge with honest wear and a great patina. Bruce appears to have been a Constable circa 1912and later was Sheriff of Dewey Co. from 1914-1917; Colt factory letter confirms features including lanyard ring (except grips) and initial shipment to U.S. Government on June 9, 1911; an interestingearly lawman associated sidearm that should be further researched.
