This lot features a fine example of a Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket .25 ACP Pistol. The pistol features a 2 1/8" barrel, grip safety, one 6 round magazine, hard rubber grips, and blue'd finish. This is A great example of probably the finest .25 auto pistol ever made. This pistol has the correct early checkered hard rubber grips featuring the COLT name in a banner across the top with the iconic Rampant Colt below. Grips are in superb condition overall. Full blue finish shows only normal light handling. These diminutive autos were very popular back-up arms for peace officers, as well as bootleggers and gangsters of the day. They were also popular with well dressed gentlemen- hence the name “Vest Pocket.” Many ladies found them the perfect size for purse carry. The grip-safety feature made them particularly safe to carry fully loaded- although this practice is now frowned upon. Production of this fine little pistol was halted for World War II and never resumed after the war. This one also has excellent Colt slide markings on both sides as well as an excellent and sharp additional lightly stamped Rampant Colt on the extreme rear of the slide on the left side- this often worn off. Correct “two-tone” magazine in which the top portion is bright metal instead of blue'd, the bottom of which is stamped CAL 25 over COLT. Tight mechanics and good condition overall. The bore is bright with strong rifling. This pistol was manufactured in 1922. Curio & Relic firearm. FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 312604.
