Colt Model 1861 Navy percussion revolver, factory engraved, raised carved ivory grips, .36 cal., 7-1/2” barrel, #14535 E, period inscribed on the backstrap: “Lt. Jackson V. Parker, ‘A Tribute to Justice’ from the members of Co. B, 7th Vermont Vols.” . This gun is in overall very good to excellent condition showing an old light cleaning to metal surfaces but still crisp action, engraving, majority of cylinder scene remaining, very good bore, nice patina on brass backstrap, outstanding ivory grips with rare raised spread eagle over nest of young; traces of case hardening still visible on engraved hammer. This gun was in the famous William Locke collection and is pictured on page 148 of the book on his collection by Schreiner and Berryman. Jackson V. Parker was born in Clarendon, Vermont on August 2, 1835. On February 4, 1862 he was commissioned as second lieutenant in Co. B, 7th Vermont Volunteer Regiment. He was promoted to Lieutenant on December 9, 1862 and to captain on October 22, 1863. He mustered out on March 14, 1866 and returned to Brandon, Vermont where he lived until his death on September 4, 1871. During the War, he fought at the siege of Vicksburg and the battles of Baton Rouge, Gonzales Station, Mobile and Spanish Fort. In addition to copies of his records from the National Archives and additional research materials, there are copies of a photograph of Captain Parker and an original copy of the hardback book, “7th Regiment Vermont Volunteers Veterans” by Holbrook, dated 1882. The gun is encased in a modern made presentation wood box with green velour lining, brass eagle and cannon slant tipped flask, Colt iron .36 caliber bullet mold, an Eley Bros. cap tin for Colt belt pistols, a combination nipple wrench and screwdriver and a cartridge skin pack by Sage for Colt Navy pistols.
