Colt Model 1860 Army revolver so-called Mormon avenger with period shortened barrel to 2 7/8” ,serial number 141917. The revolver remains in good to very good condition showing a hint of original blue finish andcase hardening. There is some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting with some slightly heavier pitting in a few small areas of the cylinder. The cylinder shows 20% to 30% original scene. The rear part of thebarrel address is very legible and a small bead sight has been professionally inset during period of use behind the last letter of Colt. The pistol is martially marked on side of barrel with a D and the grips aregood with normal aging and a slight outline of cartouche. There are small losses of wood at toes of grips. The rear of the back strap has been drilled for lanyard and an old leather lanyard is included. All matchingvisible serial numbers. The plugging of the barrel and the crown indicate 19th-century work. These belly guns derive their name from Porter Rockwell who was described as the “Avenging Angel” and “Mormon Avenger”. The
