Colt Burgess Model lever action rifle, 44-40 cal., 25-1/2” half round/half octagon barrel, wood stocks, #5770. This rare configuration of the popular Burgess rifle is in overall good condition showing an even light patina on metal surfaces, good bore, markings and action; the wood butt stock is good with scattered small mars and scratches, the fore stock shows an old sliver repair on the right side at the frame junction but otherwise good with scattered small mars and scratches. Factory letter confirms all features including the half round/half octagon barrel and indicates shipment to J.C. Grubb & Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1884 in a shipment of 8 guns.
