Colt 1851 small guard Navy .36 caliber percussion revolver remaining in good as found original condition, serial number 13410. The metal surfaces show a deep brown patina finish with good barrel address and patent dates. There is some scatteredlight to moderate pitting with a heavier pitting occurring on the cylinder. The grips show traces of original varnish with small losses at the toes and edges. There is 20% to 40% darkened original silver plate. There is a slight gap between theframe and the barrel. All matching visible serial numbers. The cylinder shows a faint outline of scene. The action works well and generally good overall. This Navy revolver was made right during the gold rush and was found in NorthernCalifornia. Found at Johnson's Ranch in Northern California (end of the Gregon Trail) by Jack Stead, early collector and long time docent for the California State Parks, who found it in a dilapidated building many years ago.
