Spencer model 1865 .50 cal SN21513 saddle ring carbine, 20" barrel blue and case hardened finish, walnut stocks, left side marked US COL. TER. in 3/8" letters, top of frame shows standard SPENCER RIFLE CO MODEL 1865 BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO address, fore-end is inspector stamped G.S.L., left side of barrel flat J.L.C., and left rear stock showing two ordinance inspector cartouche bottom deeply stamped JP Lower in 3/16" letters, carbine remains in very good to near fine condition, barrel retaining 80-85% blue, post-front and graduated ladder rear sights, receiver a speckled silver gray patina, some visible case color on lever, saddle ring and bar remain intact, as does sling swivel, walnut stocks very good with expected light dings and dents, however NO chips, breaks or repairs, both showing an older varnish re-coat, one of only 500 Spencers issued in 1866 by the US Government to the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th cavalry regiments, which included Gen. George Custer and the infamous Buffalo Soldiers, an interesting and scarce carbine which at one point went through early Denver gun dealer JP Lower's store, action remains very good, rifle bore fine.
