Civil War New Model of 1865 Sharps Percussion Carbine
The carbine is fitted with a Lawrence patent folding leaf rear sight graduated to 800 yards and the Lawrence pellet primer. The stock, correctly, does not have the patch box fitted on earlier production Sharps carbines. The barrel is roll-stamped, "NEW MODEL 1865" between the rear sight and the receiver. The barrel, rear sight base, receiver and lock plate have the standard Sharps and R.S. Lawrence markings. The serial number is stamped on the upper tang. The Ordnance sub-inspection stamp "RSL" is located on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. There are no Ordnance final inspection or sub-inspection marks on other components which indicate that the carbine was probably manufactured by Sharps for commercial sale after the termination of the company's military contracts at the end of the Civil War.

Excellent. The barrel retains at least 90% of the original blue finish, with crisp markings. The receiver and hammer have approximately 70% of the original casehardened finish with silvering on contact points and the breech. The stock and forearm are in very fine-excellent condition with most of the original oil finish and minor handling and storage wear. Priming device needs work, otherwise mechanically excellent. This is a very fine example of an unaltered and original late production Model 1865 Sharps Carbine.
