Framed size (if applicable): N/A Artist's description: While this in an iconic image of a Native American in traditional regalia, it is certainly much more. The subjects of the painting, Bryson Bronson and his horse Chinook have been ambassadors for the World Famous Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show for many years. The two perform with only a war bridle, Bronson riding bareback up a two story set during the show. Bronson and Chinook have also been honored with leading the Rose Parade in Portland, Oregon in 2015 as well as presenting the colors for the opening ceremony at the 2015 NFR in Las Vegas, NV.

I was able to meet Bryson on a fair weather day just outside the border of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Eastern Oregon. He loaded Chinook and we drove onto Reservation land winding to the top of the hills overlooking the valley below. Dressed in buckskin chaps, a chest plate handmade by his Grandmother, and a 100 year old headdress, he casually gathered an rope and added a found feather to use for the bridle. I was struck by the comradery and casual nature of the duo. At one point Chinook began to nibble lovingly on Bryson's moccasin. It was certainly a memorable meeting and honor to paint them.
