This is an exceptional and scarce original authentic set of fully beaded Warrior Shirt strips from the Cheyenne Native American Indians of Lame Deer, Montana from circa 1800's. The set shows two matched traditional geometric beaded strips having glass trade seed beads of the correct period in semi-transparent, semi-transparent dark blue, and semi-transparent green. The strips are constructed of early US Cavalry like heavy trade canvas with a dark blue and red trade cloth backing being all trade thread sewn. Each beaded strip is in excellent condition with little to no bead loss. These would have been sewn on a ranking Warrior's "War Shirt" running from the back over the shoulders onto the chest as shown in the photograph. Provenance: The set is from an astounding Early American and Native American historic collection in San Jose, California and has been found to be an authentic original example. This is truly a very rare opportunity to bid on a matched set of these beaded strips as most examples were either used on a war shirt or re-purposed onto another artifact. Most war shirts from this 19th Century era with beadwork such as this would be valued between $30,000 to $100,000, making these a truly unique set. Each shirt strip measures 27 5/8" long, and 3 1/4" wide.
