British Model 1912 Cavalry Officers Sword with Scabbard

Estimate: $1100 - 1600
Patterned after the 1908 Cavalry Trooper sword, the 1912 was considered to be the pinnacle of thrusting sword design, and along with the American 1913 Patton one of the final combat swords issued by a Western army. 35 1/2 inch straight single fuller blade, with an overall length of 43 inches. The left ricasso bears an inset gilt brass "HW" medallion, etched "BY WARRANT" on the right, with etched scroll panels on each side, featuring the cipher of King George V and the Coat of Arms of Great Britain. The guard is engraved with scroll designs with punch dot backgrounds, with a leather sword knot running through a cut in the base. The wire wrapped leather grip demonstrates the signature 1908/1912 semi-pistol grip design, with raised laurel vine designs around the pommel. With a brown leather scabbard, fitted with a leather belt hanger and nickel steel throat and tip.
