(20th Century Fox, 1970) In this well-received sequel to the 1968 Planet of the Apes, mutant humans live underground and fight to regain human control of Earth over those “damned, dirty apes”. They use mind-control ability to project illusions of a terrifying nature which involves the appearance of this large, functional “bleeding” prop. The illusion only proves to fool the less intelligent gorillas, as the mutants’ ruse is exposed by the head chimpanzee, Dr. Zaius, when he realizes that a stone statue of their “Lawgiver” religious leader could not spontaneously begin to bleed. The monumental statue is made to fall during the scene, and this is the surviving complete bust with internal tubing intact for bleeding effect. Constructed of painted fiberglass; measures 28 in. x 13 in. x 14 in., and weighs 17 lbs. Very Fine condition.
