This 9th Air Force Eisenhower type service jacket has enlisted U.S. and AAF lapel insignia with a very attractive 9th Air Force bullion patch on the left shoulder and a Mediterranean Allied Air Forces patch on the right shoulder with attractive French stitching. Both sleeves have Staff Sergeant chevrons. The right sleeve has three service bars and one service stripe and the right sleeve has a cloth meritorious service unit badge. Two rows of service ribbons are sewn on the left chest (Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal). The inside of the jacket near the collar is hand marked "THORNBURN/T2266". Replacing the Mediterranean Air Command (MAC) in December 1943, the Mediterranean Allied Air Force (MAAF) was the major Allied Air Force Command in the Mediterranean Theater from mid-December 1943 until the end of WWII. The MAAF promoted cooperation between the USAAF and RAF and established three major combat commands in the Mediterranean theater (strategic, coastal, and tactical force). The tri-force was a continuation of the Allies' use of air power as a decisive force against the Axis powers. Accompanying the service jacket is a 9th Air Force shirt size 14 1/2-32. Left shoulder has a 9th Air Force patch and the left sleeve has 4 hash marks. The right sleeve has a cloth meritorious service unit badge and an enlisted technical specialist communications patch. Both sleeves have sergeant chevrons. A ruptured duck is sewn on the right chest.
