Balwantnagar (Jhansi ) Mint, Silver ½ Rupee, 5.62g, in the name of Ahmed Shah Bahadur, RY Ahd, not listed in M&W, the width of the coin is exceptional for a half rupee. Extremely Fine, Very Rare. The cataloguer is aware of at least two other comparable pieces. The Maratha Subedar of Jhansi at this time was Naro Shankar Rajebahadur. RY Ahd of Ahmed Shah corresponds close to the demise of Chhatrapati Shahu and the beginning of the period in which the Peshwa emerged as the de facto ruler of the Maratha Confederacy. As Naro Shankar was the Peshwa’s partisan, it is plausible that these fractions were struck specially.
