Art Folio of H. D. Nichols etchings created in limited edition in 1891. Harley DeWitt Nichols (1859-1939), American artist who spent most of his adult life and career in southern California. This rare folio contains etchings by H. D. Nichols in limited edition created exclusively for the Second Panel Sheriff's Jury Annual Banquet at DelMonico's, Jan. 15th, 1891. These H. D. Nichols etchings are all printed on thick paper, 13.5 x 10.25, thus easily framed. All are finely detailed and very crisp. Each artwork is different: cover page still life signed Nichols, genre scenes of sailboating, fishing in a rowboat, duck hunting, little girl feeding turkeys in farmyard and others. Each etching is signed and also inscribed Souvenir 1891, 2d Panel Sheriffs Jury. 6 etchings signed by Nichols, 2 by Harry Williamson. Folio's 10 pages also include list of members printed in red ink, most of them historically important or high society people. Another page is the gourmet meal menu for which DelMonico's was so famous. Folio, 14 x 10.25 inches, cover has black satin ribbon tie and gold stamped seal bearing title of this event. Cover is rubbed on front and back (to be expected after 116 years), frayed at tips of spine, ribbon frayed, some pages oxidized. But the etchings are all in fine condition. This folio is a most unusual piece of history plus an instant collection of pleasing American art.
