The lot features a wonderful Plains Native American Indian pipe tomahawk most likely from the Arapaho tribe and dating to circa 1890. Nearly identical brass style pipe tomahawks have been documented in the Peterson Tomahawk book to this early reservation time as number 237 (a picture of the mentioned tomahawk in the publication is shown). The head is made of a cast brass and measures 6 inches in length. The wood haft is finely carved in high-relief and is adorned with a brass tack design and glass trade seed beaded dangle drop. The brass trade tacks could have possibly been a later addition. The beaded drop shows an Indian tanned hide construction with long cut fringe in colors such as medium green, chalk white, and iron with a semi-transparent fancy beaded edge. The entire piece has a nice shiny worn deep patina and is a nice artful example. Measures overall 17.5” in length.
