From Sichuan province this decorated bladed weapon was made in three layers - the inner for strength, the middle for resilience (accepting blows) and the outer highly tinned to resist corrosion and to maintain a good edge due to its greater hardness. The outer layer here has been slowly separating from the second layer and flaking away - thereby guaranteeing authenticity. Where the blade meets the handle there is nice granulated-style decoration while the handle itself is hollow and has two spiral-design ears at its corners. Though there also is some chipping to the blade it is not severe, making this a fine example of ancient weapon design and execution. Difficult to find in this era of increased Chinese collecting.
