Circa 1868. Presented in a unique customized wooden cigar box from McMillans, Quality to Trios, Detroit, MI. Also comes with: 1 round tin of Eley of London percussion caps, a compartment for .32 shot, 3 brass cleaning and loading tools, 1 cleaning brush, 1 Powder horn with the American Eagle on front and back. This customized unit belonged to Christopher Defour, who was a pilot on the riverboats during the late 1860s on the Ohio River. It is not known if he created this unusual pistol box from the cigar box or of a later day collector assembled this quality collection of 1860s artifacts. It was aqquired in the 1980s by the Sam Nesmith Collection, from an antique mall in Odessa, Michigan. The previous owner was a family in Cincinnati, Ohio, who had placed this unit up for sale in the antique mall.
