Influential Swiss artist (1901–1966) best known for his instantly recognizable sculptural portrayals of the human form. Scarce ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, March 17, 1965. Kind letter to a gentleman, in part (translated): "Thank you for thinking of me, it touches me. I would have liked to see you at my house but I have to leave soon and will not be back until April 15." In fine condition, with light soiling and a small stain above his signature.

Giacometti grew increasingly successful as he approached the end of his life, winning the grand prize for sculpture at the 1962 Venice Biennale which cemented his reputation as one of the most important modernist artists. He went on to receive the Guggenheim International Award in 1964, and the year 1965 marked several prominent exhibitions worldwide, including a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from June through October. The Tate Gallery in London hosted a similar exhibition of his work around the same time, and the MoMA installation also traveled to Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco on a nationwide tour.
