Hand written note in pencil says "Taken off a column at 219 42nd Street."James Congdell Strong Fargo was a president of the American Express Company for 30 years, He the brother of American Express Company and Wells Fargo co-founder, William Fargo. He became the third president of American Express after William's death in 1881. James was also a co-founder, along with William Fargo, of American Express. He is credited with the inspiration for Traveler's Cheques. Sign has vertical separation at center and is held together by tape on the rear. There are two punches and chipping at the edges.
