Four handwritten letters of early Arizona Territory settlers between Ella Shute, Louie Earl, and Miriam Middleton. Very touching letters from one woman to another. Were originally from Iowa and had traveled West together but went in different ways after reaching the west. Shute is in Arizona and Earl is California, Porterville and Tulare. In this series of letters, Indians attack the homestead and shoot at them. One George is shot through the eye, while Henry, Ella’s brother, was shot through the left shoulder, and Hattie lost some of her hair by a bullet passing though her bun and hit the man standing next to her in the head. One letter has been taped but all the rest are in good condition.
