The horn grips with original woven wrap and rolled pommel, the silver guard engraved with Ottoman baroque borders. The broad, lightly-curved, single-edged heirloom blade of classical form, forged of fine Persian black wootzdamascus steel and inlaid at the right forte with two cartouches containing the name and titles of Shah Abbas of Iran, ABBAS BANDE YE VILAYET [two Safavid shahs bore the name Abbas: Abbas I, r. 1588-1629, Abbas II, r. 1642-1666] and signed WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH. The shagreen leather-covered wooden scabbard with characteristic coiled seam and steel suspension bands with gold-inlaid borders. First half of the 18th century. Minor wear to scabbard. Overall length 95 cm. Condition II
