A magnificent Egyptian bronze figure of Bastet, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, in feline form, depicted seated in the classic pose with front legs together and tail swept around the side. It wears a broad collar of five layers and its ears are erect and alert. A beautiful example, hollow cast, with incised details and a pair of mounting tangs on the base. Some light green encrustation and lovely glossy bronze surfaces. A handsome example mounted on an antique wood base. Height without base is 6 in (15.2 cm), with base 9 ½ in (23.9 cm). Ex George Nader collection purchased from H. Ismail El Shaer, Cairo, in 1962 with copy of receipt. Mr. Nader was an accomplished and well-known American actor in from the 1950's to the 1970's and famously a dear friend of the actor Rock Hudson.
