1917 World Series Press Pin (New York Giants)
1917 World Series Press Pin (New York Giants). John McGraw’s New York Giants battle a powerhouse Chicago opponent which includes "Shoeless Joe" Jackson and six other “conspirators” who would be implicated in the 1919 black Sox scandal. Amid America’s involvement in the World War, 1917 press pin production was extremely limited. The 1917 New York Giants press pin was issued as an eye-grabbing, gold-embossed yellow and blue ribbon attached to a plain metal pin-backed fastener identified only with the word “Press.” The ribbon was key to this pin in 1917 as it easily alerted Polo Grounds security and ushers to press members with special access and seating within the ball park. Today’s collector generally recognizes the ribbon as the essence of the issue. It not only provides color, it more importantly identifies the World Series and ball park in which it was held. Remaining in a beautiful state of preservation, the fragile gold embossed ribbon stampings are miraculously intact. This extremely rare World Series relic is one of only a small handful of 1917 New York Giants press pin ribbons known to have survived. A vintage “PRESS” pin-backed fastener of the same period has been paired with the ribbon for display purposes.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
