1882-S $5 MS65 PCGS. Currently reported wholesale prices for this date in Gem MS65 grade are less than 20% more than that of a common date, yet the population data suggests a much different potential scenario. Compare the current (12/06) population of just eight pieces and only one finer to a common date such as the 1901-S with 150 in MS65 and 32 finer, then consider the modest premium assigned to this date. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth wrote in their Gold Encyclopedia: "Most of the Liberty Head half eagles of the 1880s are underrated in high grade compared with the much more common later dates." This lovely Gem has brilliant orange-gold color with frosty luster. It is sharply struck with minimal abrasions and exceptional aesthetic appeal.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
