Colorful poster measures 21 ½ x 13 ¼”. Mounted and framed measures 25 ½ by 17”. Light brown wood frame. Dark orange background with dark yellow print that reads “Presented to the G.A.R with the compliments of the Chicago & North-western Railway. The Palace Drawing Room, Sleeping and Dining Car Route to St. Paul and Minneapolis.” In the center is an oval with a blue border. On top a perched eagle sits holding a sward in his talons. Within the border there are several military symbols. Within the oval and image an American flag hangs. Below that star symbol, with an image of a naval officer an army officer shaking hands. A small child and woman in Greek dress stand behind them along with two American flags. The army and navel symbols can be seen throughout especially in two flags in the upper left and right corner. Some wear present. A tear can be seen going across the top half of the poster. The edges of the poster are worn as well from being remounted in the past. The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization founded in 1866. It was created for Union veterans of the American Civil War. The organization was created for veterans to stay in contact and meet other fellow veterans of the Civil War. Dissolved in 1956 when the last veteran of the American Civil War Albert Woolson died at the age of 109.
