1860 Henry rifle, .44 rimfire cal., in very good+ original condition, showing early style sling swivels mounted on right side of stock with butt stock swivel mounted low, almost to the belly, serial #1502. Fifty Henryrifles in the 1300-2100 serial number range for issue to the 1st D.C. Cavalry and were shipped to the Ordinance Department June 19, 1863. These Henrys were taken from commercial inventory and were not inspected. This rifle has been in possession of the Wands family of Southern California since it was carried by their ancestor during the Civil War; whose initials "W.J.W." are punch dot inscribed on the right side of thereceiver in front of the sideplates and below the ejection port. The left side of the butt plate shows engraved initials "L.W." which was a successive owner and family member. Our consigner is an elderly retiredpolice officer who will supply an affidavit to this effect; however he was unable to find any listing of his ancestors' branch of service.
