1) Unmarked 1840 Pattern Heavy Cavalry saber, 35" curved double fuller blade. The saber has a two-branch iron guard and "VII" marked helmet pommel, wire and leather grips and iron sheath with "RA*STM" marked drag. 2) Civil War Horstmann & Sons (Philadelphia) 1840 type saber, with 36" blade, maker's marks on left ricasso, unmarked brass hilt and iron scabbard.

Condition: 1) Good as cleaned, with some mild pitting and handling marks. Some cracks present on the throat. 2) Very good. The blade is bright and retains most of the original polish. The brass guard has been lightly cleaned. The leather grip cover has mild wear and the original twisted wire wrap is intact. The scabbard is lightly pitted with a dark patina.
