This piece is a genuine 1840 Indian Trade Rifle in working condition. The rifle is marked Dayton Lock and has a unique trigger with the curve back which is an 1840 trigger style and dates it (this fact was Identified by a Museum curator from Wyoming). The rifle is approximately a 40 caliber and is in good condition. This is a rare piece if Western, Cowboy, Mountain Man, and Native American memorabilia in such good condition for its age. This piece has scrolling on the lock and reads, "R. F. Patton" on the barrel. There us a slight crack in the wood but overall in good condition. The barrel is hex shaped and does have the ram rod, but the connection tube is unattached in the center. The rifle measures 4ft long with a barrel length of 31 3/16"
